thoughts on do the right thing

The movie does a great job of showing themes and cultures. The themes were cops vs citizens, blacks vs whites, men vs women and young and old. The two cultures that are focused on the most are black and white then Spanish finally the Koreans. I like that it’s up to viewer find what's right and wrong. In part sometimes there is no right and wrong at times there are situations where both sides are wrong. The story  does a fantastic job of telling multiple stories at once. We fall mookies story of young man just trying to get paid,  Pino story of  trying to break away from his family traditions. Another great part of the movie is it focuses on the whole community we see the old man around the block. Also, the young group of black teenagers who go around the block. Finally Sal’s business because we see almost every character in their kind of the community hub. I love how different each character is they all have their own personality Buggin Out is the hot head funny guy, Radio Raheem is the cool guy, Da Mayor the old wise men. I hate how we don't really see Vito fight back against Pino. Also, that we don't see what happens to the town after Sal’s pizza place is destroyed. Spike Lee does a great job of  picking a setting Brooklyn New York but also picking that day to be the hottest of the year. Because Lee picked that day to be the hottest we see why tension raise so quickly that day. I still don't understand what is the right thing to do we never really see what that actually is. If i could change anything i wished that Sal could have solved his problem with Buggin Out so we didn't have to have a violent ending. I wish we saw more of the Puerto Ricans in the story to help me better understand the relationships between the other cultures. Also I wish we could see more into Mookies relationship with his son

Dr. King talks about how violence does nothing but hurt the causes. In Do The Right Thing we see violence the biggest example of this is when the police choke and kill Radio Raheem. after this we see more violence the crowd attack and destroy Sal's. also, the crowd almost attacked the Korean shop but is stopped when both sides had dialogue. this quote and scene shows how important dialogue is. when king says violence destroys community it relates to after Sal's famous pizza is destroyed the people of that area lose apart of the community.



Malcolm X talks about how violence isn't violence if its for self-defense. this quote could be referring to when Sal destroys Radio Raheem's radio with a bat. radio Raheem might have felt threated so he attacked Sal. Also, when the mob looks to attack the Korean store owner he is not afraid to protect his store if it comes to that point.

Throughout the play spike lee puts scenes with conflict in them for the most part these issues aren't resolved in way that most people would consider positive. Lee is trying to say the that do the right thing is hard. this point is made clear when the incident between sal and buggin out ends with both parties being angry. Later in the story because things weren't handled the right way a bad outcome came out of it. Now after the death of radio Raheem so many characters who didn't do the right thing are affected. Sal has lost his business that he built with who own two hands, Mookie has lost his job and a friend, Radio Raheem lost his life, buggin out lost a friend and will probably end up in jail. Lee is trying to tell is that countingly doing the wrong thing has costly results.

The right thing to do is take a step back to think about situation. The purpose of this is to ensure that the best choice possible is made to avoid negative outcomes. None of the characters do this they let their emotions get the best of them. Sal should of never brought out his Mickey mantle bat to destroy Raheem's radio in addition radio Raheem should never have tried to choke sal out.

In class on Tuesday the class went over six rules for class. these rules are in place to encourage higher learning they are.
